20 SOMETHING

This summer I am interning at Yves Saint Laurent in their buying department. I just finished my first week there so I thought I would share how things are going so far. It started out with a bang which really got my juices flowing! I attended a meeting with two men from Paris who explained the new season of menswear. It was truly amazing to learn about how these garments are designed and created and the level of quality they uphold. A reason why I love YSL is their attention to detail and letting their quality and design speak for itself, not relying on splattering their name and logo on everything. They seem to be keeping to the original concept on luxury fashion: the highest of quality of all aspects of the products. This is not to say that branding is not important to them, as it is obviously essential. I just mean that they’re not surviving on their name alone.

Continuing on with my week…

After that amazing experience, I was returned to intern reality where I spent the week researching and doing inventory. Even though the tasks so far have not been extremely rewarding, the people and the environment are awesome and getting to play with drool-worthy shoes and bags isn’t the worst thing in the world. Everyone is so sweet and are always willing to help and answer whatever questions I may have. The buying team works closely with the stores and so this past week I worked mostly with the store manager and assistant manager, both great people. Next week I will do more work with the buying team in the corporate levels of the buildings and I really can’t wait to get started there!
